The challenge

Estimate what becomes
hard to simulate.

Out-of-time-order correlators (OTOCs) track how quantum information spreads through a system. The hackathon asked participants to estimate these signals using classical simulation, with three downloadable sample circuits and four hidden circuits accessed through BlueQubit. Each circuit was scored separately against its reference values.

My approach

Choose the method for the circuit.

01 / EXACT

Establish the reference.

Use statevector simulation where the problem fits, verify qubit ordering, and check the complete path from circuit execution to a valid submission.

02 / MPS

Trade memory for approximation.

Explore matrix-product-state simulation and refine bond dimensions where the available compute allows. Track convergence without treating agreement alone as proof of accuracy.

03 / PAULI PATHS

Estimate the observable.

Use Pauli-path estimates on harder cases and compare genuine estimates from different simulation methods, retaining the raw values and run settings.

Saved competition record

The recorded scores.

1,426 / 3,000

Full points on all three samples and G1. Approximate estimates contributed the remaining recorded points.

Snapshot: 25 October 2026, 11:54 SGT. These scores come from my saved submission ledger during the event; they are not a verified final standing or rank.
